December 2014 Christmas Dinner
Christmas dinner was held at the Pavilion on the 11th December. A group of volunteers catered for over 40, a three course lunch being served, co-ordinated by Andy Boyce and Tony Squire. Tony and Margret Squire organise the monthly Luncheon club at different venues in the local area. The Christmas dinner raised over £250 and the money was kindly donated to Atherington Playing Field, contributing towards the car park tarmac project.
November 2014 New Cycle Track Opens
Cycle track Opening day. November 23rd. Bring and share lunch and antic’s on the track! Graham Moir,Cyclist – Time trialing specialist cut the ribbon to Open the new track. Becca Miller Atherington Children’s Playing Field Chairperson thanked volunteers for their hard work over the Autumn completing the new track and pathway that runs around the field perimeter. Walter White, District Councillor and Parish Council Chair was also thanked for his
continuing support.


October 2014 Nearly there!
The maintenance and ground works continues in the Playing Field. Other than a little noise from the Dumper truck little disruption has prevented the community from using the facilities.
As the photo’s illustrate, the Cycle track is almost complete. Tarmac laid this morning. Cycle track open afternoon planned, watch this space for further

October 2014 Halloween coffee morning & pumpkin carving
On the 30th adults and children alike creatively carved and scooped 35 pumpkins. The event was supported by Playing Field friends and neighbours from High Bickington, Atherington and the surrounding areas. A successful community event with all ages enjoying the spooky atmosphere and Halloween fun.
Guess the name of the Dragon ‘Seth’ was won by Maureen and guess how many sweets in a jar? ’41’ was won by Fin.
Approx £180 was raised with all proceeds going towards the on-going maintenance of the field including the planned improvements for the car park area.
September 2014 Work continues!
Photo shows the Cycle track that runs alongside the hedge and turns left to create a boundary between play area and football field. The lower path is added to link the cycle track to the small entrance gate. Chris Hart supervises the digging of the soak away/ drainage for car park and top of the field.
Wednesdays in August 2014 Summer Holiday Open Days
The children enjoyed outdoor and indoor activities including pizza making, painting, play dough, table tennis and a range of messy resources! We have had approx 25 children attend each Wednesday over the Summer Holidays. The parents and children could relax and play together in the Pavilion where refreshments were provided.

Atherington Pavilion was the venue for this years plant sale and craft fayre, all profits raised for St Mary’s Church Atherington.

Easter Egg Hunt
Searching the playing field for eggs and collect a prize.
The children decorated their egg boxes and then searched the field for 6 brightly coloured eggs. On completion they were presented with a choc egg. All enjoyed the great weather!
Other activities included; painting boiled eggs, drawing and planting poppy seeds in the field to mark the centenary of WW1.
